Judge orders pretrial restraint of woman arrested for shooting clerk

WHITE COUNTY — Bond was set at $1 million for a 39-year-old St. Louis woman arrested over the weekend in Jefferson County in connection with an armed robbery that led to a truck stop employee being shot.

Kimberly Clerk was being held in the Jefferson County Jail until her extradition to White County in connection with the alleged armed robbery Saturday of Road Ranger in Grayville where a 35-year-old female employee was found shot in the torso.

Before being airlifted to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Indiana, the victim described the person who shot her as a black female wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and driving a Jeep Cherokee.

A payment card reportedly dropped by the suspect had the name Kimberly Clerk on it and the suspect was identified as a woman from St. Louis.

After some time, an ISP trooper located an apparently disabled Jeep Cherokee on the side of Interstate 64 in Jefferson County.

ISP troopers confirmed the female was Kimberly Clerk and took her into custody before transporting her to the Jefferson County Jail. Three juveniles were also in the vehicle at the time of the arrest and were placed in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Following her extradition back to White County, Clerk was formally charged Wednesday morning in court with Class X felonies for armed violence and one for aggravated battery, Class 1 felony armed robbery, Class 2 felony burglary, Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm, along with misdemeanor aggravated assault and misdemeanor child endangerment.

Her bond was set at $1 million and a preliminary hearing was set for June 28.

However, the court found probable cause Wednesday for significant pretrial restraint of Clerk and ordered her to remain at the jail pending further court proceedings.
