Stray Kids' “특(S

May 06, 2023

If your day is in need of a little extra sparkle, Stray Kids have got you covered. The group's latest single, "특(S-Class)," is all about embracing your inner shine and celebrating the things that make you, well, you. SKZ released their third studio album, 5-Star, on June 2 along with the music video for "S-Class," and the visual is full of elaborate set pieces, action-packed sequences (CGI tentacle monster, anyone?), and fashion and beauty looks that highlight the group's bold propensity to mix and match.

Fans of Stray Kids already know that these record-breakers don't play by anyone else's rules, and "S-Class" exhibits the group's willingness to experiment with sounds, textures, and overall song structure. It's a bit dizzying on first listen, a serpentine medley of thrumming bass, '90s boom bap, and squelching synths. That's exactly what makes Stray Kids so exciting; you never know what you're going to get, only that it's going to take you on a unique ride.

As a group that likes to play outside of conventional lines, Stray Kids also like to have fun with their style. From custom velour tracksuits to distressed denim to glitter pants, "S-Class" delivers some seriously special fashion moments. Below, we dive deep into eight standout looks from the music video:

It sure looks like Hyunjin is Versace's latest muse. Not only did the dancer recently snap a pic with Donatella Versace herself at the launch of Dua Lipa's "La Vacanza" collection in Cannes, but he's also been spotted wearing various Versace pieces in recent months, and this MV is no exception. In "S-Class," he dresses up a burnt orange velour tracksuit with a studded black Versace Goddess t-shirt and a Barocco silk scarf tied at the waist. (You'll see him in several other Versace looks in the video.)

The studs add a bit of thematically appropriate shimmer, but the playful combination of textiles and textures is what really makes this look shine. His peach-colored hair is just the cherry on top. (And, no, we didn't forget about Muppet Hyunjin, who makes a much-too-brief appearance.)

The real star of the show in this music video is Lee Know's glitter pants. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can see them from the moon. As a member who doesn't often step into the fashion spotlight, it's refreshing to see Lee Know have a bit of fun with his styling.

This particular scene in the music video was filmed in the middle of the night on a barge in the Han River. So many things tend to look flat in the dark, but these pants guarantee that all eyes are on Lee Know. The high-collared Louis Vuitton jacket he's sporting during the second verse, paired with velour track pants, is also a nice mix of styles and textures.

A 'fit fit for a king. No one owns the stage quite like Changbin — the song's electrifying Bintro is a testament to that — so it's only fitting that he'd wear something as ostentatious as a sparkly zebra-pattern Balmain bomber jacket. He balances the glamor with a pair of Feng Chen Wang tie-dye lounge pants and New Balance sneakers. These are three things that absolutely should not work together, but Changbin pulls it off. (Is there any doubt as to why he's one of the architects of Stray Kids' boisterous sound?)

Don't sleep on Bang Chan's "S-Class" style. Sure, the man wears a lot of black, but it's all about the details when it comes to SKZ's diligent leader. For example: his slightly cropped black cutout top and distressed J.W. Anderson denim jeans. It's a look that gives the illusion of adaptability and edge, even though we all know Bang Chan is as disciplined and type-A as they come.

Even though Seungmin's embroidered Celine jersey is the flashier look, it's the suit jacket and tie that appears in the video's standout scene. Seemingly inspired by Men In Black, Stray Kids all wear a version of this "business casual" look — some combination of suit jackets, white button-downs, and distressed jeans — but in a pivotal moment of the video, Seungmin is seen dancing amidst the chaos of an alien invasion with a goofy smile on his face, blissfully unaware of the carnage around him. It's undoubtedly a metaphor for SKZ's approach to shutting out the noise of critics and dancing to the beat of their own drum, or in this case, AirPods Max. (A choice that might age oddly if Stray Kids land that rumored Samsung sponsorship.)

The group's resident OOTD master, I.N pays attention to fashion. While he prefers baggy street style wear for every day, "S-Class" elevated his look with this Mowalola faux leather biker jacket. It's one of the brightest (and, therefore, most eye-catching) looks in the entire video. Once again, I.N proves that he's the maknae on top.

Han is a vision in green during one of the video's primary dance sequences. We know the rapper is a huge fan of Supreme — he's been wearing this shirt for years — and "S-Class" pairs his love of the streetwear label with his love of comfortable work attire. The green coveralls, in a hue somewhere between shamrock and emerald, and the green label Supreme tee are the perfect combination for anyone who's planning to go from work to bed in under 30 seconds.

Felix is a talented rapper, singer, and dancer, and lately, he's started to dip his toe into the fashion world. Most recently, he attended the Louis Vuitton women's pre-fall show in Seoul and the luxury house's cruise show in Italy — in addition to appearing on the cover of ELLE Korea in head-to-toe LV.

Felix is a fashion star in the making, and "S-Class" only highlights his chameleonic appeal. From the Celine rhinestoned t-shirt and Undercoverism hooded coat to the YSL hoodie, headband, and sweatpants, no one wears clothes quite like Felix. And the silver hairstyle in a half-up, half-down ponytail? The furry hat? The glitter freckles?? There's not a single look Felix can't pull off.
